Free farm safety checklist for Australian farms
A walk-around checklist covering the hazards that injure Australian farm workers most — so you can spot gaps before an inspector or an incident does.
What it covers
- Machinery guarding and maintenance
- Quad bikes and side-by-sides
- Chemical and fuel storage
- Overhead powerlines and electrical safety
- Livestock handling
- First aid, emergency contacts and assembly points
- Worker inductions and training records
Your duty as a farm business
Australian WHS laws require farm businesses to identify hazards and manage the risks, so far as is reasonably practicable. A regular safety walk-around is a practical way to do the identifying part.
Turn findings into action
Anything you tick as a problem should become a hazard with a control and a person responsible — otherwise the checklist is just paperwork.
Common questions
How often should I do a farm safety check?
Many farms do a full walk-around each season and before busy periods like harvest, plus a quick check whenever something changes on the farm.
Who regulates farm safety in my state?
Each state has its own regulator — for example WorkSafe Victoria, SafeWork NSW and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. Check your regulator's guidance for state-specific rules.
General guidance only, not legal advice. Check your state WHS regulator for rules that apply to your farm.
